This is the ancient mother house of the followers of San Guglielmo and is situated at the end of a secluded footpath a few kilometres outside the town of Castiglione della Pescaia. Legend tells that San Guglielmo retreated here to a hermit’s life. The monastery was founded in 1188 afer the saint’s death. In the 13th century, during the war with Siena, it was destroyed to be then rebuilt several times, while the saint’s remains were scattered among the neighbouring villages.
